Nocturne Online

the Living Role-playing Fantasy Saga

About Us

Nocturne is a Live Action Role Playing Game, (also referred to as a LARP) that runs out of Camp Allamuchy in Stanhope, New Jersey. A LARP can be thought of as a cross between a Renaissance Faire and a murder mystery party. Like a Renaissance Faire, there is an audience and an array of scripted characters. In a LARP, however, the audience gets even closer to the action. Donning medieval costumes and fantastic personas, players immerse themselves in the mythical land of Aeryn where an epic battle for the fate of the world has only just begun.

MONKS

Let Cho Ren speak
For my soul is burdened with guilt

Let Cho Ren sing
For it is balm for my need

Let Cho Ren redeem
When at last my journey is done.

Greetings, and welcome to my Sanctum. You may wonder what it is that summons you to this place. Perhaps you seek answers to the mysteries of the world? Perhaps you have been lured by promises of riches or fame? No, it is none of these things. It is haram, the voice of guilt, which has brought you here. It burns in you as it burns in me. It is the voice of the God calling you to forgiveness. But redemption is not a blessing to be bestowed. It is a path that must be walked – a destination that must be earned. I wonder if you have the strength to see it through to its end? For there you will find a beginning.

There are shadows in your past. I can see them as clear as a star in the darkest part of the sky. There is tragedy and sorrow. Who were you - I wonder - before you came to me? Were you a thief who knifed innocents for meager coin? Perhaps you were a nobleman who let others starve so that your own table was ever full? Or maybe you were a parent who could not protect your own children? A soldier who betrayed his commander and his country? It is no matter now. From this point forward you will be made anew. You will eschew the trappings of the world that have brought you so low. You will put them by and you will conquer them. Your life as it was is done. It will never be the same again…

Monks are priests of Cho-Ren, the Eddar god of Redemption. Though deeply spiritual, Monks are nonetheless very competent warriors. Aided by the spiritual power of special prayers known as meditations, they flow easily from the serene to the deadly. A monk eschews all worldly possessions and does not carry weapons save the martial staff. However, their most dangerous weapons are their own bare hands which can be as effective as any sword or maul. Monks also do not wear armor, focusing on special disciplines that allow them to avoid injury altogether. Despite their great prowess on the battlefield, monks are not front line fighters and they excel when free to use their natural mobility to assault their foes from multiple flanks.

"As we gaze into the darkness of the cavern – so do we gaze into the darkness that lurks in our own hearts. We must not deny who we are, for that is where our strength dwells. Drink deep of your darkness. Bear it aloft and cry “Here I stand! Not even the Sky can defy me!”

The under-elves, the shadow-born. The dark elves of Aeryn are as complex as they are ancient – as cunning as they are mysterious. To behold a dark elf is to glimpse the enigmatic and never are their motives completely clear. Even the University of Lorekeepers continues to speculate on the race as a whole. Many things contribute to this sense of strangeness. While generally held as secretive, it would be more correct to say that dark elves are an extremely private people. The workings of their daily lives – the names of ancestors, even common day-to-day activities are not often spoken of openly. If the surface details of any one dark elf’s life are held colse, then certainly the inner workings of their minds – the deep held beliefs and subtle thoughts – are nearly impossible to unravel. Cultural norms are at once beautiful and incredibly intricate, serving to further confound even the most dedicated attempts to unravel them. Their history is as old as Aeryn itself, but unlike their sylvan cousins, the dark elves hold the written word as tabboo – regarding each written symbol as a secret revealed. Thus, the history of the dark elves is as difficult to define as the people themselves – often characterized by large sweeping events. Specifics are careully guarded by the dark elven Shinji. Certainly, the dark elves are a race steeped in secrets.

Citizens of Artanna, people of Aeryn:

Five-hundred years years ago, the Sanctuary was created and our forebears were given a chance to salvage hope from the wreckage of the Scourge.

At last that Hope has come.

A Lorekeeper has gone to the Black Oak, Cerabril and there received a True Prophecy. Whether these words come from the gods or from some force more intrinsic to our survival, I cannot say.

But I do believe in the words...
